Staying fashionable in the winter months can be a daunting challenge at times. Especially if you live somewhere that tends to get buried in snow while reaching ridiculously stupid freezing temperatures. While the preference is to hibernate during the winter months unfortunately that is not always feasible. So I’ve opted for a new strategy – layering. Layering clothing items provides not only warmth, but also gives quite a bit of versatility when it comes to styling. It’s a perfect opportunity to combine different fabrics and textures, which is exactly what I did here.

For the base layer I opted for knits; long sleeve top and fitted maxi skirt, worn with a biker jacket and fun printed scarf. For colder temperatures one could easily layer on a maxi cardigan or long coat. Another benefit of layering is the ability to add or remove articles of clothing as required. There is nothing worse than being stuck in one heavy piece in the event you need to transition between interior spaces that have different temperatures (for instance the office I work where one room can be overly hot while other areas are freezing). Stay warm my friends!

And most importantly – Happy Friday!

We’ve been lucky the past two weeks with unseasonably warmer temperatures. So warm in fact, that I was able to wear my Free People tunic as a dress. Might I add, without the need for a) leggings or b) overcoat or jacket. And believe me, the blanket scarf wasn’t really needed either, but I had planned it for this look. Along with a long knit overcoat which I forgot to grab to work the morning of. Which in the end worked out because I probably wouldn’t have worn it anyways. I had been planning on transitioning this summer tunic into my Fall wardrobe anyways. Although I had planned on wearing the Free People tunic over tights or pants – I guess those looks will have to wait. But I am not complaining about being able to wear this short number bare legs and all….mid November.

The Wide Legged Pant

Embracing my long time fashion nemesis: the wide legged pant. I realize that I very well might be the only person in the blogosphere that was not excited with the re-emergence of this trend. But the truth is, I’ve never been a fan (felt the same way about them in high school!). However, I humbly surrender and do as the SS15 runways dictate. Next step, embracing Spring‘s 70’s and flare trend, yet again.

Happy Thursday!
