Spending the last few weeks of summer doing what we do best: getting lost in the middle of nowhere. And no better way to go out than in true summer spirits: denim cutoffs and a bohemian kimono-style top. Picked up these caged heels the other day as I thought they would be perfect to wear while it’s still hot out as well as to transition into Fall with. And speaking of, cannot believe the summer has come and gone already…it seems to have gone by in the blink of an eye and hard to deny now that Labour Day has passed. Are you looking forward to Fall? Or is a small part of you crying on the inside like me?

Frida

An endless source of inspiration Frida Kahlo has been to me. Not only in art but in life as well. However, the only tangible tangible item I had to represent her is a book of her life’s story and work. I once saw someone wearing a shirt with Frida Kahlo’s self portrait on it and ever since then I had wanted one. But I didn’t even know where to begin looking for one.

After that strangely enough a few months later my boyfriend and I were randomly walking through Upper Canada Mall when I spotted one out the corner of my eye. Never even noticed that store before as it was geared more towards a skater style. That being said I was real glad that we just so happened to be there that day and had walked by. I also really liked the vibrant colours of the shirt and the portrait itself was beautiful. Needless to say they only had a few Frida shirts left and I just so happened to grab the last size small. Meant to be I suppose.

Worn here with a pair of chambray denim shorts and some statement bohemian bardot jewelry. And of course a flower in my hair as inspired by Frida Kahlo.

Hawaiian Nights

I’ve been crushing over the palm leaf print for some time now. And my lust for leaves dreams came true after receiving this Hawaiian Nights Bodycon dress from Tobi. This print is perfection to me and couldn’t represent summer any better. The fact that the style is a bodycon was simply bonus, and I must say it fits perfectly and is super comfy. I think this print is the epitome of summer, although sadly Toronto does not have palm trees growing about.

I opted for white accessories to compliment the background of the print, and purposely chose a black chunky sandal so as not to be too matchy matchy with the white. All the while creating a nice contrast in compliment to the leaf outlines. The cut and back detail is true to the season while staying elegant and classy. I used a head scarf with a bow on the side to complete the look. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t already daydreaming about wearing it again.
