Sweater dresses are my jam. All year round. I’ll wear a sweater dress with OTK socks in the summer time yet winter provides some more fun styling options. Such as with OTK boots, leggings and ankle boots, over jeans, with sneakers…they can be worn so many different ways. Hands down the sweater dress has to be the most effortless (and weather appropriate) choice for winter dressing. Need I mention they are my go-to for those days when I opt to hit the snooze button one too many times and need to run out of the house for work in less than 20 minutes.

While I typically dress these down, having a faux fur stole as cute as this one sitting around in my closet made it difficult to do so inspiring me to play up the feminine side of things. But of course I couldn’t help but be my rebellious self and opted for a biker jacket instead of a classy button down coat.

What’s your favourite way of styling sweater dresses? I’d love to know!

I tend to go into hibernation mode in the wintertime…surfacing rarely for food or the odd necessity. Case in point the day we took these photos, we had been on a 3+ day hibernation stint when we finally decided to venture out for coffee.

Seeing as how it was freezing out all I wanted to do was bundle myself up in something soft, fluffy, and warm. So I opted to give these new faux fur goodies a try. To be honest…this wasn’t the way I had envisioned debuting these beauties and part of me was kicking myself in the ass for dropping the ball on styling these in a cuter way before the deep freeze. But blame it on the hibernation I suppose!

Nevertheless my boring outfit consisting of boyfriend jeans and chunky turtleneck needed a pick me upper and the faux fur accessories brought some life into the mix. Not sure if it was the obnoxiously oversized pom pom hat or the slightly-over-the-top fur stole, but the pieces added some fun textures to the look. It’s definitely nothing glamorous but truly represents a hibernating blogger’s ootd for a coffee run in between cozy snuggle sessions.

What are some of your favourite things to do in the winter?

Making Winter Cuter with Pom Beanies

Winter is not a fashion show. Words that haunted me growing up and wisdom that I chose to ignore much to my dear mother’s dismay. But tell that to a girl who lives and breathes Vogue magazines, worships Jeanne Beker and watches Fashion Television religiously. Like every time it aired on City TV. (Prior to the emergence of the Fashion Television Channel for all my non millennial readers). Dressing cute and fashionable always seemed like a better trade-off than staying warm and I must admit I’ve endured my fair share of ass-freezings over the  years in an attempt to do so.

Luckily with age comes wisdom and I’ve accepted that winter can be a fashion show – when done properly. Which leads me to talk about winter hats. Not really something that I’ve been into, but my boyfriend’s nagging over the years finally convinced me to start wearing them. So over the last two years as I’ve attempted to embrace winter hats I’ve actually become addicted to them. Not sure why I was so against them, as I used to rock baseball hats all the time back in the day. But maybe it was because they just weren’t as cute as they are now.

Enter the pom beanie, or even this beret style pom pom hat from Free People – over the top cuteness meant to keep one warm. For this reason (and of course because of our frigid winters), I’m expanding my collection one pom beanie at a time. With that being said, winter fashion doesn’t have to be dull or boring. Simply making weather appropriate choices while staying on trend is a great way to turn winter into a fashion show.
