Well, I’ve let the cat out of the bag on Instagram so I might as well break the news here as well. Thankfully the blog post title pretty much gives it away and breaks the ice a bit, but…we are expecting a
little bundle of joy in a couple of months. To be completely honest, I have no idea how I’ve managed to keep this secret as long as I have. Although I’m sure being quarantined helped. I probably would’ve tried to keep this under wraps longer but it was getting to the point where I couldn’t hide it anymore lol.
Smocked blouse similar. Joggers here.
One of the things I vowed to myself at the beginning of my pregnancy was not buying maternity clothes. Or as little of them as possible. The idea originates from one of my old friends who did just that. I remember her saying that maternity clothes were really expensive and that she couldn’t justify spending all that money on clothes you wear for a couple of months. She only bought a few key pieces and then relied on her husband’s clothes for the rest. I always admired her idea and promised myself I would do the same.
Unfortunately I can’t rely on my husband’s clothes because he’s a giant and I’m only 5’2. But luckily I held onto some of my clothes from high school and college. While I donated tons of clothes from those eras throughout the years I managed to hold onto a few. And boy are they coming in handy now because your girl used to be a tomboy so all said clothes are really big and baggy. Perfect for wearing around the house now.
As for my maternity staples, so far I’ve only purchased a couple of things. One pair of black leggings, as worn here and the blush pink joggers I’m wearing in this post. The other few pieces I purchased, like this top is regular more loose type clothing that I bought a size up. This way I can still continue wearing these pieces well after my pregnancy.
I’ll show you a few other regular pieces I purchased with the intent of using them throughout my pregnancy and after in upcoming posts. I’m still trying to be not buying maternity clothes at this point. Or as little of them as possible. I just can’t justify the spend, especially since we’re still essentially living quarantine style.
And besides, we’ve got lots of other things to be spending our money on, like clothes and nursery items for our little peanut.
