2020 was a humbling year. We lived well within our means on a minimalistic budget. We grew our own vegetables. And we learned not to take every day things for granted. One other big change for me (and most ironically for a fashion/style blogger) was that I went pretty much the whole year without buying any
new clothes. Buying new clothes in the middle of a quarantined at home pandemic seemed like an unnecessary spend. Not to mention frivolous when we were more concerned about how we were going to pay our mortgage and every day bills.
And although you would think it would bother me, it didn’t. Over the last few years I’ve been shifting my mindset to not focus on materialistic things as much. And so this was just another step in that direction. Having said all that, it was only at the end of the year with the holidays coming up that I made a very few and select purchases. I had fallen into a track pants only kinda slump and needed to snap out of it. Wearing dresses helped but it was nice to add a couple of new pieces to my lineup.
I literally bought four new pieces and that was it. Two of them (blouse and leggings) make up my casually dressed up at home look. Knowing that we’d most likely spend the next few months in a continued quarantine I picked pieces out that would work for home and eventually for going out. Perusing online I instantly gravitated towards this smocked top. Casual enough for the house yet cute enough to feel like I’m somewhat dressed up. Works well at home and of course could be dressed up too.
Cat mug here.
I needed a new pair of leggings as I pretty much lived in my other ones for the past year. So a quality legging seemed like a good investment. I purchased both items from the Gap, which in itself was a bit of a shocker because I’ve never been a Gap kind gal.
Completing the whole look is a pair of cute slippers instead of high heels. Because it is quarantine after all…
