I hope y’all been staying safe and keeping healthy during these surreal times. Personally we have been self isolating for I don’t even know how many days, weeks, now. We venture out only 2-3 times a month for grocery
pick-ups, sometimes taking the longer way home just to enjoy a few more minutes of being outside in an attempt to feel normalcy again. Now I must preface this post by just saying it’s been difficult for me to resume “normal” content with all this Covid-19 stuff going on. But after all these weeks, and our curve finally flattening out a bit I feel like I can start putting out some posts that have been sitting in my drafts since before this pandemic began.
With the change of seasons I feel like I inadvertently change my beauty products line up. Naturally new products and samples make their way in, and as always, some old favourites remain. In today’s post I’m sharing the beauty products I’ve been using in quarantine aka current beauty faves roundup.
False Lashes + Natural Eyelash Adhesive
It took a while, but your girl finally got the hang of false lashes. And it only took being in quarantine lol. To be completely honest though, applying false lashes is one of those things that requires a bit of practice. And as it turns out, with nowhere to go I suddenly have all the patience. I typically buy Quo‘s false lashes because of their thin band which is great for novices like myself. I also love that I can wear them guilt-free because True Glue, a natural eyelash adhesive. I say that because I have issues with putting toxic chemical adhesives on my eyelids. While I usually hear that people prefer the clear glue, personally I prefer the black one. I’ve slapped falsies on whenever I needed that extra instant glam for the occasional Instagram photo at home. For all other days I opt for black mascara.
Brow Pencil
For years, wait scratch that, for decades I was hooked on a tinted brow pomade by Smashbox. While I’ve tried (and enjoyed) other brow products I always tend to revert back to it. Before Covid hit we had a habit of spontaneously heading out for coffee, which meant I didn’t have much time to get ready. That’s when I really got into using the Wet N Wild retractible brow pencil. I really love it not only for ease of use, but also just love the way my brows look after using it. As such it’s become my go-to for eyebrows. I should point out that even in quarantine, on most days I still put on my brows and eyelashes.
Liquid Eyeliner
Typically I follow false lashes with a cat eye. While the Revlon felt tip liner was my fave for years, I feel like there’s no going back once you’re tried Kat Von D liquid eyeliner. Best precision ever. I should also mention that I was super bummed out when Kat Von D announced she was stepping away from the brand. Personally, it was her that made the brand for me. I used to watch her way back on Miami Ink and her leaving the brand makes for a tough adjustment.
Anit-Blemish Patches
Ok seriously, where was this stuff when I was in high school? While I’ve been somewhat fortunate as an adult with limited acne/breakouts, my teenagerdom was the exact opposite. I don’t get to try MaskerAide’s anti-blemish patches very often, but after having used them a few times now I can tell you that they are amazing! Whenever I felt a hormonal pimple coming on I put this on before bed and that pimple never gets to see the light of day. The odd time that I’m dealing with more of a cystic crater the blemish sticker seems to minimize its impact.
Nude / Peachy Lip Colours
While I’ve been stuck on bubble gum and fuchsia pink lip colours for what seems like forever now, this spring I’m toning it down a bit with more neutral nude and peachy tones. The colours are subtle enough to wear out without being too over the top while still maintaining cuteness. My two faves at the moment are Dirty Little Secret’s lip gloss and L’Oréal’s liquid lipstick. Lip colour is as close to trending spring colours as I’m going to get this season.
Texturizing Mist
L’Oréal was sweet to send over their texturizing mist which makes for great beach waves. If your hair has a tendency to have a slight wave in it like mine, then this will really help to give you effortless beach waves. I feel like the result would be even better with a curling iron, but let’s be honest, I can’t be bothered with a curling iron while in quarantine so this texturizing mist is perfect for subtle more natural looking beach waves.
If you’ve tried any of these, I would love to hear your thoughts. I’m also trying out some skincare – because I guess there’s no better time for self-care. Will be sharing those, as well as some spring outfits soon.
Stay safe and healthy friends!
