As much as I love the occassional splurge on a luxury item, often times I’m looking for trendy pieces that won’t cost me a fortune. After all, I’ve got some serious
bills to pay and can’t afford to spend top dollar on a top that won’t be in style in a few months. Those trendy, yet somewhat basic items are where I like to save. Not only for the sake of the bills, but also to help offset that occasional luxury splurge.
For as long as I can remember I’ve been mixing affordability with luxury. Probably only because I can’t afford all luxury tbh. But nothing wrong with living within your means. And saving luxury investment for things like purses, sometimes shoes, and the occassional designer denim.
A perfect example of mixing affordability with luxury is this outfit. I was on a quick cat food run in Walmart when the lace up sleeve detailing caught my eye. Quickly detouring from my usual dash into the cat food aisle I went in for a closer look. The sweatshirt was cute – and I’m always a sucker for lace up anything. The $15 price tag was a bonus for my broke ass (which is currently on a very tight budget due to our upcoming move). Cat food and cute sweatshirt in hand, I left the Walmart happily.
While I’ve never really purchased clothing at Walmart before, I’m certainly not above it. Especially since Walmart saved my behind a few weeks ago while roadtrippin in Sault Ste Marie. I had forgotten to pack bottoms and we had an early train departure the next day. Thankfully the Walmart was open late and I was able to find a cute pair of Levis jeans.
I paired the lace up sleeve sweatshirt with an old Zara miniskirt, last season’s OTK boots and a Chanel bag. Which could make even a potato sack look chic. And that’s exactly where I choose to make my luxury spend, on timeless classic pieces that I can wear throughout, not just a season or two. Case in point the Chanel bag. Or a good pair of designer sunnies, another good investment that will last a few seasons.
