It’s only in the last couple of years that I’ve begun to embrace Fall. Which means that aside from drinking pumpkin spiced lattes I haven’t really ever done any autumn type activities. So it was quite serendipitous when I was invited to attend a harvest themed event with Ford Canada. To make things more exciting I would be leaving the event with a new 2018 Ford EcoSport to test drive for the week. Shane and I had just gotten back from road tripping in Sault Ste Marie with my Escape so I was excited to try a different Ford model in a similar capacity, having received an invite to Andrew’s Scenic Acres to truly experience the harvest.
The #FordHarvest event started off with a cooking class at Dish Cooking Studio, located on College St in downtown Toronto. We learned how to make apple ginger chutney and apple pie. I’ve never made apple pie, or any other pie for that matter so I truly enjoyed the experience. Baking a pie was fun and not as difficult as I initially thought. Plus I even conquered my fears of using a peeler.
We left the cooking class with our very own made apple chutney and pie, as well as the Ford EcoSport. My first impressions were how cute and compact the SUV was. Perfect for city driving while having the four wheel drive. One of the first things we noticed while driving the EcoSport was that the engine shuts off while idle. That means sitting in bumper to bumper traffic downtown we weren’t even burning gas. What an amazing feature, especially for those who get impacted by traffic on the daily. Once we got out of traffic driving out of the city was a breeze and I was impressed with the great gas consumption for an SUV.
Running errands with the EcoSport throughout the week was convenient. It was great not worrying about having to dig my car keys out from the depths of my purse (with multiple bags in hand) to get inside the car. With the key fob in my purse the doors opened with a touch – perfect for a bag lady like me. The same applies to the push button start – extremely convenient. The EcoSport also comes with a remote starter and although I didn’t test that feature out I do use it all the time on my Ford Escape in the winter time.
On the Sunday afternoon we visited a local apple orchard, Andrew’s Scenic Acres. I was really excited to visit there because I had never been apple or flower picking before. We had a lovely hour and a half countryside drive to the apple orchard with the help of Ford’s navigation system. With the available 4 wheel drive we had no concerns taking the SUV out on country roads. The navigation system made driving super easy as the actual dash would light up with upcoming turns, in addition to the main screen showing a map view. The highlight of the drive for me was the heated seats because it was a bit chilly out and I’ve wanted this feature for a while. And of course the heated steering wheel, luxury I was not accustomed to in my Escape.
While at Andrew’s Scenic Acres I was like a kid in a candy store going after all the pretty dahlias! The acres were filled with pumpkin patches, apple trees and roaming chickens. I enjoyed every minute of hanging out with the chickens.
Shane and I took a tractor ride around the grounds and even visited a haunted forest maze. Doing all of these things really made me appreciate the autumn season and see its unique beauty. We made sure to spend a few minutes around the smoldering bonfire before leaving the acres. I actually had so much fun and was even more convinced that Fall isn’t all that bad.
Leaving the acres with plenty of photographs and great memories we happily headed home, beyond grateful for the experience we had on our road trip with Ford Canada. I must admit I did have a bit of separation anxiety when returning the EcoSport as I knew I would miss a lot of its features. And I was right lol.
Have any of you visited Andrew’s Scenic Acres? If so, what were your favourite Fall activities there?
Wishing y’all a wonderful week ahead.
That sounds like such a fun day and your pictures turned out lovely! Though I still have never visited a pumpkin patch yet, I’ll be sure to do it next year 😀
