Always a sucker for military anything, as most of you probably know by now. Which of course means that I’ve been crushing on this Free People military jacket for months now. But when I finally caved and decided to purchase the jacket, it had been sold out. Talk about heartbreak. And it wasn’t getting restocked until December, which at the time was a good 2-3 months out. While I wanted to wait until then I decided to abandon the mission thinking I wouldn’t get much use out of a lightweight jacket in the middle of winter. However, Shane surprised me with the exact one for Christmas and I was beyond stoked. The mild weather we have been having lately was just another thing to get me excited. As well as giving me an opportunity to wear this Free People military jacket earlier than anticipated.
I really enjoy styling military pieces (which tend to be on the masculine side) with dainty feminine pieces like this lace Saks Fifth Avenue peasant skirt. Which btw I scored at a major discount at the Saks Off 5th in Niagara. Perhaps it’s the younger inner tomboy in me screaming for all things military, but whatever it is I’m good with it.
Military jackets come in all sorts of cuts and colours. Some are fitted and others have more loose or baggy cuts. While I opted for the full on camo utility jacket, other options like basic army green or even a black one are available if you’re not as adventurous with this trend as I am.
Military jackets don’t have to be masculine and are more girly and versatile than you think. I’ve rounded up a few of my favourite ways to style a military jacket with on trend feminine vibes.
Military jacket with a white tee
A casually chic way to wear this look is to style a military jacket with a white tee or tank. White compliments military green and camouflage very well and this look always seems to be a favourite. For bottoms black jeans would work as well as a pair of leggings or denim mini skirt. Complete the look with a pair of strappy heels or sneakers if you’re going for the mini skirt.
Military jacket with a floral scarf
One new thing I’ve tried this season is mixing military with floral accents. Although the look I’ve linked to doesn’t have a jacket in it, it was paired with a military style bag. This should be enough to give you an idea of how to mix the two prints. Adding a pink or neutral coloured scarf is a great way to style a military jacket. Just make sure to go with neutral tops and bottoms when going with this pairing. You don’t want to clash too many prints and take away from the military and floral accent.
Military with white lace
Military jackets look really pretty with white lace. Case in point, the look in today’s post. Need I say more?
Military with a band tee
Another way to style a military jacket is to wear one with a band tee. For bottoms go with a skinny jean and depending on how much you want to dress the look up or down you can opt for heels or sneakers.
Military with jeans
And of course, the most basic approach is military with denim.
Jacket, Free People. Top, Pink Martini. Skirt, Saks Fifth Avenue (Saks Off 5th). Shoes, Aldo c/o Dixie Outlet Mall.
While initially this post was meant more to focus specifically on the jacket I’m wearing here, it took on a life of its own. I really wanted to show you all just how versatile military pieces can be, whether it is a traditional camouflage utility jacket, or even a chic fitted black military coat, military jackets are a great addition to your Spring wardrobe.
I looove how you styled the military jacket! I would have never imagined it with a lace skirt, but it looks wonderful 🙂 Thanks for the inspo <3
Have a lovely weekend, Andra
